My name is Girts Berzins and, as you noticed after reading my name, I did not grow up in the UK. I am from Latvia and have been living in England since 2011. I successfully finished BSc (Hons) Applied Criminology (Miscarriages of Justice) course with a first class degree in University of Derby in 2014, hence my interest about the topic is coming from there.
About the blog
The main purpose of this blog is to raise public and academic awareness about miscarriages of justice and to introduce a new definition, which would include crimes where an offender was never caught. At a time when media coverage on the problem is declining and the government is trying to close as many options for compensation as possible without breaching international agreements, a new approach for informing the public is necessary.
This blog came around as a hobby and as a way to introduce my passion to others. Although it is still new, I will do my best to keep it running. If you find it interesting and would like to discuss a specific topic, please feel free to get in touch with me through my email firstname.lastname@example.org or Twitter @moj_blog1.
